Oh, I know it's not a 2011. I've shot a few STI's and you can tell the difference. Of ones listed above, the 5" Tac would be the easy choice. As for caliber, what are you going to be doing? If USPSA, you have to go 40. Everything else, 45.

I will say first that I don't actually own an sti. My good friend owns a STI Edge and it is an amazing gun. His is in 9mm and with the weight of the frame it shoots like a .22. I have also been to and toured the STI facilities in Georgetown, TX and if you have the chance you should go as well. Every gun is function tested, adjusted and test fired by one guy.

Btw, the ranger and the tactical 4.0 are both on my short list.

No real reason to consider the 4 for target shooting. That extra inch will allow for faster target acquisition, improved sight picture and minimize felt recoil. So, the Tac 5 gets the edge over the 4. The tac 5 is similar to the Eagle. But the Eagle has a much better rear sight and a few more small touches that let it run a bit smoother.

For round selection, I would go 45. It is easier to find practice ammo in a 45 over 40.
            Great info!

            Thanks.
