Need to hear from Instrumentation guys..

I posted a thread a few weeks ago about going to Lamar Institute of Technology and I've decided to start in the fall for Instrumentation. My question is after I finish the 2 year degree, what is the average starting salary? I know a lot will depend on where your employed but on average what could I expect?

Depending on company. Low to mid 20's per hour to start with potential to the 40's per hour.

High 20's to low 30's per hour at most chemical plants and refineries starting out. Big demand for i and e.

I did the same 2 year program at San Jacinto College from '91-95. It took a little longer for me since I worked 6 days a week. Be careful which company you go with. Try to start with a larger company that has an I/E department, not just a couple of guys. That way you can get some real world experience without being thrown into the fire. I'm with Air Liquide and they are an OK company but only keep 1 guy on hand. I was with BP and they were better with different departments... Instrumentation, Analyzer, and Utilities/Power. Good luck. I got my degree and took the first plant job that came my way... been an operator ever since.
