Pelican predator hole patch help..

Recently picked one up and it has a small hole in the back
from being drug around on rock, pavement, etc..

Any suggestions on patching this up?

Plastic welding.. Any experience?

How big is the hole? If it is not too large, your easiest solution is to use marine silicone to seal it. Get a piece of plastic and use marine GOOP to attach the plastic to the inside of the hole (if it is accessible). Then, once you have a good backing, use the silicone to seal from the outside.

Plastic welding is fairly easy if you want to go that route. You may be able to get some weld material in your color from Pelican. Many kayak makers offer the material if you call them. But, in my experience, welding plastic works best if you have a very SMALL hole.

My buddy had a boat similar to that and same problem with got a fiberglass repair kit and fixed two holes held up awesome!!

Thanks guys. In the future I may fabricate some sort of wheel kit on the
back to assist with moving it around

Todd- hole is about 1/4 inch wide by 2 inch. I think I will go your route

I am a plastic welder by trade, I manage a plastics fab shop where we custom fabricate water and foam tanks for fire trucks. Been welding and fabricating for years.

Depends alot on what material you have. Polypropylene and polyethylene are not going to glue very well (if at all), your problems will keep coming back. Trust me, I fix them all the time on stuff folks bring in to me. For PP and PE the answer is welding, but you need someone who has the right rod and equipment. Look on there, and somewhere it should have a recycle lable. If it has a PP or PE in that triangle, you know what you have. If it is ABS, then you have a real good shot at glueing it. Some of your PVC glues are labled for ABS as well.

I had a smaller pelican case one time that was PP, it welded real well. The crack you have sounds like it would weld real good, but I bet you are nowhere near the panhandle. If you were I would fix it up for you, we are in the SE corner, by Childress.
