I am looking at getting a new pup. I know that parvo is bad in our area (Waco) and I lost several pups years ago. I need to know the best way to make sure that I do not have that problem again.

Vaccinate and revaccinate until it has sufficient antibodies against the virus. Keep it away from heavily populated dog areas until its about a year old. This may not be perfect, but better than nothing. If you chose not to do anything, hope the pup picked up enough maternal protection during nursing.

JerrygBuying vacines from feed stores is a crap shoot.
I personally lost four of the finest beagle/treeing walker pups, (Superbeagles), using feedstore "puppyvax". As I understand it, parvo/distemper is an airborn virus, thereby not requiring direct exposure to un-vacinated dogs. Not trying to be funny, but it does appear from my 20 years of raising a variety of dogs. That purebreds dogs do appear to contract parvo/distemper at a much higher rate than the common street cur. Perhaps it is due to the street cur's mom passing on some degree of immunity to these virus's to her pups. C'ya
