    6.7 Powerstroke questions

Been bouncing back and forth on either getting a 1997-2002 7.3 or biting the bullet and going with a new 6.7. have seen some very promising reports on the 6.7.

    I am looking at the 2012 F250 4x4 6.7
Those of you that currently own the 6.7. what year is it, miles on it and any issues. Average fuel mileage, Likes and dislikes.
Any input from current 6.7 owners is appreciated.

    I have owned several diesels in the past, 1999 F250 7.3, 2wd, 1999 F250 7.3, 4x4,
    2001 F350 7.3 4x4, DRW. 2005 F350 6.0, (junk motor IMO)4x4 DRW,
Now driving a 2007 F150 4x4, great truck for the last 5 years with no real issues, 104k mikes on the 5.4 but getting the urge to buy a new one and considering a 6.7.

My friend bought one in December and already has 15k miles on it. He loves the power of it and the mileage. The truck is too quiet though; he came over to my house when I was around the side of the house and only heard him because of the tires smacking the lip of the driveway. Diesels need to be heard.

Looking for a King Ranch with the 6.7. Found a sweet 06, low miles, BUT it had the 6.0.

6.0 is a fine motor, after you drop a the Bulletproof kit in it. Expect to pay 3-5K for that. But afterwards it is a good motor. Still boggles my mind, why you can buy an aftermarket kit to fix the motors problems and ford with all of it's engineers never could.

I just got a 2012 6.7 Lariat 4x4 about a month ago...only have 3K miles on it. No problems so far.

I have been averaging about 16 city and 18-19 highway.

I like the get-up that it has compared to my old Duramax (2005 6.6 LLY). I have not towed anything yet...

I don't have any dislikes yet...

                Hope this helps.

                  Big +1.

The new 6.7s are very promising and look great, but you could buy three very nice 7.3s for the price of a new 6.7. I'd do that if you really are debating between those two motors.

One of my friends has several 2011 and 2012 6.7s for his business. They are great, he has had no issues so far. The only problem is the price on these trucks is $50K+. Lots of people live in homes that cost less than these trucks do!

We have 4 of them , 2 11's and 2 12's. Between 5k and 75k on them, not one has been back to ford for anything. In the 450's we average 12 mpg in town. On the 250's closer to 16 mixed driving, but we're hard on them.

i have a 2011 6.7 60k miles on in and getting in the 16's on fuel

no problems, fast and strong. I haven't put anything behind it that I couldn't drag with the parking brake on.

                          I've got a 2011 F-250 4x4 crew (~13,000 miles) that I've towed my 32 1/2' 5th wheel, 26' travel trailer and Polaris ranger/trailer with.

So far back & forth to work I can pull 18 to mid 19's mpg's.
Once I get back to the factory 10w-30 (instead of the 15w-40 the dealer put in it) my mileage should pick back up.

Towing mileage is kinda weak at 10-11 mpg's on the RV's and 12's on the ranger trailer.

BUT it pulls with authority and enjoys doing it. I simply lock out 6th in the hills and in traffic and it never downshifts to 4th- this includes the hills on 1-10 near Kerrville.

My advice would be to decide what you want to do with it before shopping- if you are wanting to load it down then you might consider the "camper package" which includes over load springs, but only comes in 17" wheels (or get an F-350) . Other wise you'll be adding airbags or after factory overloads to keep the truck from sagging too much.
I went with bags because even my ranger w/ trailer would sag the 3 leaf system that comes on the 18 & 20" wheel models.
Unless you go F-350 DRW (comes with 3.73's) you'll be looking at 3.31 gears with the 18" wheel and 3.55's with the 20" wheels. The overall ratio is near the same once you take tire height into account.

One thing is for sure, they are super smooth going down the road and mine has been a pleasure to own so far.
Instrumentation and driver controls are top notch.

My company has 10 -6.7's half 2011 and half 2012. We have only had problems with one of them and it was a faulty fuel rail thatntook awhile to figure out. In talking to my dealer then and now that's the only truck they have sold and seen back in the shop with the 6.7 motor. Lots and lots of power and way better fuel mileage. I hope I'm not gonna jinx myself but we love them and are super happy with them so far, looks like Ford may finally be onto something since the 7.3 change.

Ohhhh one more thing, I'm a Ford man to the core and they didn't take a government buyout!!!!! Sorry I couldn't help it...........
