    2 Hogs Down

Father and I were walking the new 600 acre property he bought last week in Oakhurst. We took my dog out to see if he could get us on a couple. Well Saturday was pretty windy so we just sat along a creek bottom and nothing. Sunday we got out there around 6:30am and decided to walk the property, well after an hour and a half we started our trip back to the truck and my dog took off on a trail and we just ignored him and kept going. After about 10 minutes that he was gone he began barking and you could hear nothing but squealing coming from a creek bottom. Well when i made it down to the creek he had a nice size boar bayed up in a corner, so when my dog stepped away a bit i took a shot and hit him behind the shoulder, pig took off with my dog intact. He made it about 20 yards and expired. While walking up to the boar i noticed a nice sow about 30 yards to my left, well my dog noticed the same and he latched on and i was able to walk up and put a round in her and the fun for really began. I couldnt believe how strong these dogs are, he held her for over a minute until she expired. But all in all it was a great weekend and some more good training for him. These would make number four for him while hunting solo.

May be a really dumb question. But what breed of dog to you have? And do they pretty much have the hunt and hold bred into them or is there serious training time involved? I've seen bird dogs with no real training work great and those with all kinds of training give folks fits. Guess it depends on the individual dog? Congrats to you and your dog.

He is a pitbull and probably one of the biggest babies of a dog you have ever met, he's a lap dog seriously all 100#. when i first took him out he just chased them around and barked, but after i shot one and i started to drag the hog off, he thought we were playing tug-of-war and he ate about half the ear off. pretty much after that he hates hogs. not sure if its the breed or what. a guy that works for me has 5 puppies from my dog for sale, i believe he is asking $250 for them for what its worth.
