what kind of fish will I catch in port aransas

I'm taking my kids fishing this coming Friday in port aransas. What kind of fish can I expect to catch? What kind of bait should I use? I ain't been fishing in 20 years.

Trout reds flounder, buy or catch a few dozen finger mullet or croaker and put em under a poppin cork, should be easy for the kids. Good luck

If its the surf use either dead shrimp and or fish bites. ='s tons of catching. . Trout, redfish but more whiting and or hard heads.

Also sheepshead and black drum. Check with Deep Sea Headquarters or Woody's and they will probably tell you what is biting on what and where.

Be careful of the hard heads. You don't want to get finned by them!

Fish off the bottom in the surf and you might just catch a small shark. Kids love seeing and touching sharks....I know first hand.

Very true. At times u can catch 15-20 plus pup sharks in very shallow water. 1-3'. They will be 15-25" and you can catch em on the dead shrimp/fish bites.

If you are shore bound with kids the beachfront with dead shrimp can be fast. Most whiting but can catch reds drum trout and stingrays often as well. If they are late nighters about 1 am hit the lighter piers on intercoastal with live shrimp

ON a serious note, this is what i would do. It's usually a sure bet for a lot of action. We usually sleep til about 2am after a day at the beach or fishing and then hit the piers. Live shrimp is key. Rig em up on a spinning rod and free line them on a small circle hook. Just keep them off the bottom and they'll take care of the rest.

You'll catch the fish that bites the hook

Also may look at a ghost shrimp pipe. Kids love catching them and make great bait in the surf
