    Axis Problem

Well, I guess it's a good problem to have. I got onto a piece of property that has Axis and whitetail on it. However, they won't come into the feeders. The feeders are penned in cause there are cows on the property. Could that be why there not comming in? Is there a certain kind of feed I could use thats better than just corn?

There is plenty green stuff to eat so far. My herd went from 60 to 20 and they are not as tame as they were. Hunt the water late afternoon.

If you put out alfalfa they will come no matter what when or why.

axis are grazers. they eat more like a cow than a deer.

I know they love roasted soybeans! They have it blended with corn.

Thanks fellas I'll try the alfalfa. Just hope the cows dont knock through the pen wire to get some.
Are the soy beans something I would put in corn feeder? This feeder stuff is still new to me.

I had the same issue in Leakey and they would not jump into my pen. I ended up taking down one section and I have been whacking them ever since. Loose some corn to the sheep sometimes though

We have same set up on my lease. We just put alfalfa in feeded pens and that brought them in closeer.

Had a place in Sonora and we used 36in hog panels and had no problems. You need a decent sized pen also. Mine were maded with 7 sixteen foot panels.

Heck with whitetails axis are better in every way.

I've gotta agree. My buddy and I were out at the ranch the other day and he shot one with the pistol. Man that meat was awesome, tasted justlike beef.

sweet feed/horse and mule feed works great. they can smell it along way off. i use it to get a site real active a couple days before the hunt. works like a charm.
