Owned an '89 for 5 years back in the early '90s. It was 2WD with the V6. Had no real problems with it that I can remember.
Look it over to see if its in good mechanical shape, engine internal condition, pull a plug or two....the front one's on bank 1 and bank 2 are fairly easy to get to. Good luck.

THose and the rangers are great lease vehicles, even if you get stuck as long as you don't bury it you can usually push them out or at themost pull them out with a 4-wheeler. Of course then there are guys that never get just stuck they got to bury a vehicle. I normally just hand them a shovel.

black and tan one looks like its allot cleaner. I use to work on them when i was with ford. 2.9 is a pretty good motor but the 4.0 has more more power. Never really saw many problems with either engine, intake gasket leaks were all i an really remember. Overall good vehicles. My buddy had one we use to REALLY beat the hell out of and it just kept going.

We had 2 differen ones growing up. Dropped one of them into 2nd going down the interstate at 65. The transmission didn't fall out and the engine didn't blow up. That is about my only experience driving a 2.
Not sure what the price difference is, but if it were my decision the Tan/Black gets my vote. It is cleaner looking, the tread looks 10 times better and if what the owner says about mechanical issues is true then it's a bonus. The lift on the black one looks a little suspect, but it might just be the angle of the pic.Last edited by Fargus; 04-19-2012, 08:51 AM.
