    Homebrew luminock question

I posted the following question in the D-I Y section but have not had a response:

"Okay, I made some luminocks based on Deerslayer's instruction...shot a hog last week, and it worked great. BUT, my arrows rattle like they have BB's in them. Anyone have a solution?"

    Anybody else's homemade luminocks rattle?

    Rattle like they have BB's.....

Ok run a check , make sure everything is TIGHT, when I made some the only reason they made noise was because the light came loose and fell into the shaft.....

Are the lights in crooked? (does the body of the light touch the shaft wall??)

Did you do the wooden dowel inside the arrow method or just the stick it in the nock method?

Gotta use the sawed off small part from the same kind of nock epoxyed to the other end of the lite. Then it will not rattle and there is no dowel in there either.

I used the dowel method (Deerslayers unpatented method), and it is glued in, but the upper end (lighted end) of the Thill does not fit tightly into the nock; therefore it rattles inside the carbon arrow.

Flame-tamer, I used a different method than what you apparently use. Being the dumbarse that I am, I cannot picture what you mean to..."Gotta use the sawed off small part from the same kind of nock epoxyed to the other end of the lite". Is that similar to a collar around the light that silps into the arrow?

My light fits up into my transparent nock loosely without glue. It also fits loosely into the carbon arrow and rests (loosely) on the dowell, so therefore it rattles when the arrow is moved, multiplied x 4 with a quiver full.

Take the clear nock.. Place some super glue on a cardboard piece... Takethe colored part of the lite and rotate it at a 45 angle so just the edge gets glue on it. Now place it in the clear nck and let it dry. Now take a nock the same size that fits the arrow you use and cut off the part that stays outside the arrow.. the area that stops when you seat the nock. Cut off all of the part that does not go into the arrow. Now epoxy the other end of the lite(the meatl part) flush with the bottom of the nock piece that you cut off. Let dry. Now turn on the lite and push the cut nock into the arrow which should be tight but not too tight and slide it in until the clear nock seats.. Then pull back to turn it off. Viola a new lited nock. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Flame-tamer. That makes sense to me, now. I will have to try that method...I appreciate your patience in getting through my thick head.

Rick, here are the instructions I used to make mine. I believe these came from Deerslayer's website and has been posted on here several times. Howard has also posted some instructions, and I'll see if I can post those.

Try one with the other nock setup. I think you might enjoy it as much.

                            Thanks Berandel

Hey sorry I found the instuctions in the D-I-Y forum appreciate your effort. Am most interested in making some of these especially for my practice arrows can,t always find a backstop in the "woods" that is convienent and I've lost about a $100 worth of them so far this year, it's aggravating, expensive, and cuts down on the practice even further, and boy I can't get enough of that. That has always been a problem with archery them arrows will slide into that grass, or under those leaves and you can not find them to save your life. In addition to all of the other benefits of a lite nock if I save just a few practice arrows and the nocks are C-H-E-A-P!!!! and I don't have to wander around for a half an hour going "I know that @#$%%^@! is right here!!!!" Amazing how far those suckers will slide to ain't it? I'm not the only one that happens to either cause I've found four brand new arrows in the last mo. Must have been a missfire,"OOOPS, hope nobody is over there! Don't hear no screamin, though." "Dang it , that waz a six doller arrow.""Hate it when that happens."
