    ? for you Longrange Hunters

I am in the process of deciding on which new rifle to purchase.

What I am looking for is a round for long range big game hunting. However, since hunts for elk size game will be limited to once every two or three years, I would like a round that I can play with on the range out to 1000 yards.

I am currently looking at the 30-378 weatherby and the Remington Sendero 300 RUM.

I am interested in hearing opinions and recommendations from you long range hunters out there.

I prefer 7mm stw, I have a 300 ultra but the stw is my go to!

If you want to practice with it too the 7mag is the way to go. The 6.5-284 is hard on barrels.

Recoil on those 2 rounds are brutal. A well placed shot is all you need out of a smaller calibre. No need for anything larger than a 300wm. 7mm mag is another good round. The key to long range shooting is having a scope that you can dial your range and wind into, hold dead on. Past 400yds the wind and knowing the exact range are very critical. I want to caution you that long range shooting is addicting. You start at 400yds, when that becomes boring and of no challenge you move upto 600yds and so on and so on. We have just moved my 7 year old grandson from our 300yd 8" gong to our 440yd 8' gong because the 300yd gong was no longer a challenge for him. He is shooting a 243win. Welcome to the addiction.

I love my 300 RUM. Custom rig with a muzzle brake. Im a smaller guy and recoil is no problem with a good brake.

That's why they make ear plugs. I have brakes on all my big guns.

                        I'm a fan of the 300wsm. Or the 300wm.

These guys make an awesome rifle that will drill holes at 1000 yards out of the box. They have a local dealer with samle products as well.

I dont have his personal cell, but you can locate him through Alpine range in Ft Worth. His name is Tom with Gunwerks.

I listed those two because he said "1000" yards, yes it's capable for small calibers. There's just guns that were made for that kind of yardage.
