    Shotgun Choke Problem

Well I made a mistake and hope it doesn't come back to cost me alot of money.

I was shooting my Benelli Vinci during a skeet shoot at a bachelor party a few weeks back, and realized towards the end I did not have a choke in. Idiot I know

Well the other day I went to shoot skeet and tried screwing a choke in and it was very hard and required ALOT of effort. I still did not completely screw in no matter how hard I turned it.

Sooo........did not using a choke cause it to mess my threading up or what could be the issue? I have never had this issue before and it used to screw in with ease. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance guys

You are fine, just got alot of plastic and carbon build up, take a "12ga chamber" brush and put in your drill with some solvent, will clean it out

more than likely the thread has a lot of plastic wadding lodged in them, you might be able to remove it using a copper barrel brush and some kind of mild gun solvent, but make sure you rotate the brush in the same direction of the threads, not up and down the bbl...hopefully there were not too many rounds put thru the barrel to damage the thread

My choke came out a couple turns during dove season 2 years ago... I didnt realize it till the end of season...

By that point the carbon in those first couple of threads was so thick it took FOREVER to clean out.

But its fine now. Just take some time. NOTE: GUN SCRUBBER IF LEFT ON TOO LONG ON A BERETTA'S COATING WILL STRIP THAT STUFF RIGHT OFF THE BARREL.... Sad day when i left it on for about 10 minutes and the coating started to come off... Be careful when you are cleaning the threads out not to mess up the exterior finish!!!!

Im a tournement shooter and shoot just about every weekend between Feb and October. I frequently un screw my mod and shoot threads on a close up shot. It has no effect on your threads besides getting them dirty. My motto is if aint dirty you aint using it. haha. No worries on your thread though, the only thing to ever touch them is the plastic wad. If anything you had a wide spreading pattern which probably helped you. haha. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Just clean it real good and you should be fine. If you look around, you can usually find a choke thread tap for the more common threads. It's usually built on a small 4-way configuration. If Chuck Webb said it won't hurt it then you can pretty much take his word for it. He should know! I'm sure Travis knows too. He's put a shell or two through a shotgun. If he keeps it up, someday he'll make a shooter out of himself!

If you received the same factory choke wrench that I did the reverse side has a choke thread cleaner

Why would you store a gun without the chokes in it? Just curious?

I am not sure...Think it was because I cleaned it and forgot to put it back in.

On the other hand, why would it be so important to store it with a choke?

Uhhhmmm.....So you don't forget to put it back in and shoot it without one....

I wouldn't be surprised if you rolled the threads a little. It doesn't take much for the shot to tear through the wadding. Hopefully not..
