I got as "Asp" sting on my back once, and the scar's still there...It hurt for days...Still remember smacking it with my hand, and got it too! I'm pretty sure there's a difference between the caterpillar that stings, and those guys.

Last year at work I had one bring me down to my knees. It was in my ATV helmet and I put it on not knowing. I thought it was a rock in there so I moved it around to stop the rock from poking me. After I kept feeling pain I took it off and saw a green and red little thing with spikes on it. Had to call our medic over due to me gettig red, weak, sweating, and breathing heavy. I lost my man card at first until everyone saw how bad it was.

Wow Leland, size 14, now I completely understand BigL.....Sir.

This week both my wife and I have put our arms on one. It burned a bit on me but wasn't too bad. On my wife, it raised a welt and still looks bad and she was in a lot of pain.

Anything that brushes you like a Jellyfish or Asp lays poison on your skin. Any high asid will kill the effects. Don't know about you - but - if I needed a bit of high acid fluid, my opperating system would produce it....

Lol. I'm only 6'3" and weigh 260 to go with that size 14. I was at 295 the first of this year so not as big as I was.

Sorry to hear you both got one hit by one this week. On my 13yr old niece she had a big welt too and said it burned really bad. My neighbor had one fall from the tree when he was mowing the yard and fell down the back of his neck and into his shirt. He said he had 5 good spots on his back. I'm wearing a hat with brim all the way around it after hearing him talk about that going down his back! I thought about spraying the trees in my yard but probably wouldn't do any good if the trees around me aren't sprayed too. Oh well how much longer before they turn into a moth?

I use meat tenderizer or tobacco for jelly fish.

When I worked EMS in Galveston we kept white vinegar and meat tenderizer on the ambulance. You can make a paste out of it and put it on jellyfish stings. Not sure about caterpillars though.

We always used vinegar on stinging nettles. Similar, I guess. Never been stung by a caterpillar (knock wood).

When a **** moth caterpillar rubs or is pressed against skin, venomous hairs stick into the skin, causing a severe burning sensation and rash
