Well, I've been out of pocket for the last few weeks and finally getting back into the routine of work and the Green Screen. With the season coming to a close, I took my youngest son hunting the week after Christmas. He is not strong enough to Bow hunt yet, so we were rifle hunting. He has gotten does for the past few years and this was his first year hunting by himself with an oppotunity to take a buck. He had seen several young 4, 5, and 7 pointers earlier on in the season and let them walk. I gave him the green light for an 8 point or better. The hunting started out with both of us taking does early Thursday morning,(thinning out the heards). Then Thursday night he took a real nice 85-90lb. doe. He told me he didn't think he was going to get a buck this year on our place and started asking about a deer that was sighted on a place we get to go sometimes in Georgetown. I told him to be patient and wait and see, had 2 shooter 8's at the stand I was at. I was kicking myself for not making him hunt with me, but he is getting good experience hunting by himself and having to make decisions about pulling the trigger. Well come Friday afternoon, he had his chance. This 8 came out and he decide to go ahead and take the shot. It was about a 75 yrd shot and he did a perfect heart/lung shot with his mossberg 30.06. The Buck dropped in his tracks. He called me to verify the shot and then afterwards to let me know he had got him. He was very excited to say the least. I am very proud of him. he is coming of age hunting by himself and understanding wildlife management and hunting ethics. Pretty soon he will be hunting with stick and string and I will be posting his acheivements in the hunting section...lol
