    Crawfish in Pond

Has anyone put crawfish in their pond as supplemental feed for the fish and if they breed a little food for them now and then. Would they have any negative effects on the pond?

They'll meddle in the spawning beds, but that's usually when they get ate.

We've stocked them in our large tanks, 10 plus acres.

They can also undermine tank dams and what not with their burrowing. But they are nice to have, especially if you can catch a few for a boil.

I would think the plusses would be better than any negatives , but have nothing to support it I always found that the ponds that had them were always the cleanest and healthiest ponds we fished . . .

We've always had em in our ponds. Make great live bait too.

I put a 50lb sack in the 13 year old 3 acre pond we live on several years ago. I never noticed crawfish before putting them in. There are definitely crawfish in the pond now. We probably should have put alot more in but it was an experiment and I just wanted to see if they would establish.

                Will they catch smaller fish?

I would think they would improve the fishery. They are very high in protein and fat from what I have read. While your at it I would also stock frogs for the same reason .

I have a few in my 150gal fish tanks. They are cool to watch.

Now where can I get them in the San Antonio area for this purpose?

I have never seen one with a pole in its hand

                            I digress
