    Public land aoudad hunt

Is there any place to do this? Just got laid off so thought i might use the time to hunt something i have always wanted to. Is there an area where i can have a do-it-yourself, public land hunt with a legit chance at a good sized aoudad?

Amistad is the only one that I'm aware of, and there aren't many Aoudad there at all. There are a few other WMA's in Texas that have Aoudad, but you have to put your name in the APH drawing and try your luck there. Palo Duro, Devils River, ect....

You would have to wait until deer season for the Amistad hunt....and they are very few and far between.

In my ten years of hunting there, I have seen the two same ones....and one was shot a year ago.

New Mexico offers tags too, just FYI.

Big Bend State park has some brutes but it is draw only.
Public land and reasonable chance do not go hand in hand.

There's quiet a few at Pedernales Falls state park. But again, it's a draw hunt...

I know of a few Aoudad guides and a self guided aoudad hunt if you decide to go that route.
