Is there any place to do this? Just got laid off so thought i might use the time to hunt something i have always wanted to. Is there an area where i can have a do-it-yourself, public land hunt with a legit chance at a good sized aoudad?

Amistad is the only one that I'm aware of, and there aren't many Aoudad there at all. There are a few other WMA's in Texas that have Aoudad, but you have to put your name in the APH drawing and try your luck there. Palo Duro, Devils River, ect.... -
You would have to wait until deer season for the Amistad hunt....and they are very few and far between.
In my ten years of hunting there, I have seen the two same ones....and one was shot a year ago.

Big Bend State park has some brutes but it is draw only.
Public land and reasonable chance do not go hand in hand.Comment

There's quiet a few at Pedernales Falls state park. But again, it's a draw hunt...
I know of a few Aoudad guides and a self guided aoudad hunt if you decide to go that route.Comment
