    What kinda salesman are you?

    A few recent transactions got me to thinking about how I handle "selling" vs. how some of the people I delt with do.
    This is a two part question.

    First.

    You know someone looking for an item. You also know someone selling the same item.
    Do you ...
    A. Put the two people in contact?
    B. Play the middleman and take a cut by marking up the sellers price?
    C. Play the middleman and ask the seller for a "commission"?
    D. Play the middleman and ask the buyer for a finder's fee?
    E. Play the middleman and get the deal done asking for nothing from either?

    Second.

    Does your answer change depending on how well you know either the buyer or seller or if either is a relative?

    "B", "C" & "D".............................and yes it depends on how well i know the people involved, so I have also done "A" & "E"

      A - no matter how well I know the buyer or seller unless either the buyer or seller are not comfortable with that and then my answer would be E

        I've done A, C and E with acknowledging all parties. In the past if I'm selling something for someone, the first time it's usually free. After the first time and depending on the price of the item, I usually charge some kind of fee. If it's a $500 item, I'd probably only charge them $30. A $10k item I helped get sold 2 yrs ago, I got a pistol for my commision. =) I just make sure the parties involved know my actions and intentions.

          I am the same way but I do not make my living as a salesman. If I did and the product being sold or sought was something I dealt in then the answer would probably be different.

                    If it pertains to my business and I know where the product is and it also falls in my product line then it is "B". If it falls out of my product line then I have done "A" and "E".
