    Recommended minimum poundage for hogs

My son is 10 however he is very small framed. He has a nice little Parker compound bow and shoots it pretty well however he isn't close to pulling 40 pounds yet to shoot at a deer.

He really wants to shoot a hog while he works himself up to the minimum 40 pounds for deer.

What do you think the minimum poundage could be for shooting at "smaller" hogs? 25lbs, 30 lbs, etc.

I plan on getting him some 85 grain Magnus Stingers.

    Thanks for your opinions.

30#s, a true flying arrow, with a VERY SHARP BH should do the trick on a 100 pounder. IMHO

I'd say try to keep the shot(s) to maybe 10 yards or so also, if you can keep from getting winded. Oh, and be sure to send those LDP's when he connects!

Mark if you take a look at the Link that is in my signature "Alexis' First" you will see what size of a hog she killed.

She was shooting only 30lbs, with some 100gr Steel Force Broadheads that were given to her by Uncle Tink

We started with the 85 grain Stingers, Mark, at a little over 30 pounds pushing a Vapor Blackhawk 3000. Wicked little setup. Don't let him shoot too far and even less pounds on the bow will get it done. Good luck.

Thanks everyone. He isn't to 30 pounds yet but if I get him setup with a 10-12 yard shot he might be ok on a smaller pig.

Maybe we will give it a try on the youth weekend. That will be the next he goes out to the lease with me.

Before Ashlyn got her weight up in the 40's she put 85gr magnus through them with 33lbs and always got a passthrough, with most shots around 15yds.
