    Home Nursing question

As you know Macie has a nurse 5 days a week, 10 hours a day. Medicare doesn't want to pay overtime so they have a different nurse come on Friday. Here's my question. The weeks Macie has a Dr appointment the regular nurse misses one of her 4 days, we leave to early for her to get there. So she wants to work on Saturday to make her hours up, usually not a problem. This Saturday however, Keili was wanting to go some where as a family. The nurse is mad because then she won't get her hours. I understand being hourly and needed all 40 hours but do we change our plans or tell her tough?

YOU are the customer.. it is not YOUR responsibility to get her the hours she needs... it is the company that she works for. YOUR only responsibility is keeping your family happy and enjoying the time together that you have. Do not change your plans... let her talk to the friday nurse and see if they can work something out - again, not your issue.

As the family you have the right to refuse a nurse if you would like if you want to spend family time, all that happens is a missed shift notification is sent to the doctor and medicare stating why the shift was missed. If you really want that nurse you can have the company cancel the "Friday" nurse and send your regular Mon-Thur nurse or the company might have options for this nurse to pick up with another client for the day

I manage a local branch of a national healthcare company so feel free to pm with any questions you may have.

Like y'all don't have enough to deal with already. You guys can do what you want to. Tell her your sorry but your family comes first.

What a crock!! My wife is a nurse and used to do pediatric home health. She would have never thought of asking a client to change their plans so she could get her hours. It may be time to find a new nurse; one that will remember why she is there.

Well all of these replies just echo what I told Keili when she called me. Thanks

Another thing I forgot is depending on your hours you may not be bound to 10 hours a day. I have some nurses who will "make up hours" if they miss a shift and will work some 12 hour shifts instead of a 8 or 10. This also hels out the family as well as they are still hitting their hours.

granted this is still up to you if you want the nurse there for that long but could be an option.

She must have known this was a possibility when she started working with you guys. Are you going to avoid going on vacation forever or avoid taking your family out to lunch some day? No way! She works for you and you don't have any obligation to make sure she gets her 40!

Let her stay 2.5 hours longer the next 4 week days. Thats what we did with my grandfather's help while he had it.

                              Bull.
I work in home health. Its your choice to do what you want. It's also your choice to change agencies and nurses if you want.
