    No more TV

Sold the flat screens and had my cable turned off today. Was pretty much wasting $150 a month for something I never really got to watch. When I did find time at the end of the day to catch something 99% of the time it was sportscenter on ESPN right before bed. So I sent the boxes back to AT&T and now all I have is high speed internet.

How many of you have done the same thing? Did you or how long did it take before you started to miss it?

Been going for almost four months now. I spent several Sunday afternoons at my buddies at first, but it has grown on me. Get a lot more stuff done, and spending more QT with the kids. Still have Dish Network at the lease, so I get my TV fix there if I need it.

I haven't watched "TV" since Sept. of '99 (except for a very few occasions on business trips, when I could get the "Military" or "History" channel).

Have a 46" LCD, a DVD player... and a host of shows and movies that I have found value in over the years (a ton of 'old' movies... Grant, the Duke, Sam Elliot and Tom Selleck westerns, etc.... favorite TV shows from my youth - Andy Griffith, The Guns of Will Sonnet, etc.... and new ones that I read reviews and see clips of, like - JUSTIFIED, and the "JESSE STONE" movies, etc. I also have a growing collection of one of my all-time favorite characters, ZATOICHI).

Haven't missed the LSM BS one second.

Been thinking of doing this for a while. The whole family including myself watches that idiot box way to much. Im just worried my wife wont be able to exist without greys anatomy and dancing with the stars.

I havnt had cable in a few years, I cant see spending money to sit in front of an idiot box while getting fat and lazy I rent movies from the Red Box on occasion and I have a huge selection of DVD's ive collected over the years but thats it. I stay working on something or busy doing something usefull.

You can watch a lot of movies via the internet for free

              You don't really need cable.

Most sports can be found broadcast somewhere on-line. Not always legal, however.

Heck, even a $55 annual subscription to Xbox live will get you ESPN 3 streamed for a year. Or at least it used to.

Additionally, if you are not addicted to any current series on TV, you can go and buy complete seasons on Blueray or DVD and watch completely free of commercials.

Or you can always pickup a book or obtain the daily news from the internet, which has better sources than those talking heads on any channel.

IMO, people are way too addicted to TV.

you can find most shows and movies on the internet and news websites have videos of some of their reports. If you have some shows you still want to watch hulu plus or netflix may be worth it for 10-15 bucks a month, but that might defeat the purpose of getting rid of your tv.

Been totally tv free for seven years now. Dont even own one. If we want to watch a movie (which is rare) we watch on the laptop. I also have a projector that i use to teach classes with, so can use that as well.

Words cant describe the joy of not watching tv every moment when we get home. I was totally worthless when i had one, and i knew it, lol. Now i'm just worthless with a lot more time on my hands, lol...
