Stoopid Questions from a Noob ...

I have 2 questions (and please forgive if these have been posted before) ...

    1. Carbon or Aluminum arrows?
    2. Vanes or Feathers?

I am currently shooting Aluminum with Vanes, but I hear that Carbon is all the rage.

I shoot carbons with feathers off the shelf of a longbow. They work great.

I shoot Aluminum arrows with 4" vanes. Alot cheaper than carbon and just as good for killing stuff.

There is nothing wrong with aluminum arrows, it is just that carbons are more durable than aluminum. Aluminums may be cheaper but you will buy a lot more.

I prefer vanes, namely blazer vanes, as they are more durable than feathers.

It dose'nt matter which you choose as long as they are the RIGHT arrows for your set-up. A perfectly tuned arrow (no matter whether carbon or aluminum) is going to shoot better than an arrow that is not in sync with your bow. I shoot aluminum because I have found the RIGHT one for my set-up. I also have an arrow straightener and a dozen arrows lasts me quite a long time. The good thing about carbon is that they are either straight or broken - there is no bent. Again, the MOST important thing you can do is get the RIGHT arrow for your bow. As for vanes or feathers it is personal choice. Vanes are more durable than feathers and you do not have to worry about them getting wet. Feathers are more forgiving if there is any fletching contact issues ( these issues should be corrected in the bow tuning process). Most compound shooters use vanes because they can set up their bows with zero fletching contact and nearly all traditional shooters use feathers because they shoot off the shelf of the bow and there is always some fletching contact. I hope this helps you out some.
