I once shared a corn row with a huge beast while pheasant hunting in South Dakota. It wasn't wide enough for us both and she was on me before I knew it. Luckily, only 12 of my closest friends were there to witness me yell like a little girl and get bulldozed by a man eating, dragon-breathed.....deer. That was about 8 years ago and nobody has forgotten it nor failed to mention it on our annual trip to SD.

    PS...it hurt.

    Glad you were ok.

Hahaha, I can only imagine! You likely handled that better than me. I would have freaked if I saw that deer flying through the air at me.

Great story, and likewise the telling of it!

My own "ferocious animal" story also involves a deer. Couple years ago, hunting from a pop-up blind near Lexington, I inadvertently released the arrow before I intended to. I hadn't yet gotten the sight pin positioned on the kill spot when the arrow flew from the bow, much to my surprise.

Well, the buck was neck shot, and ran off with the arrow protruding from him. I waited, then tracked him to where he'd lain, but no deer and no more blood trail. I walked back toward the vehicle, thinking maybe if I drove around the pasture I'd see horns or a white tummy lying on the ground. But instead, when about 80 yds. from the vehicle, I spied the buck sitting and just looking at me from 12 yds. He'd gotten rid of the arrow by then.

I nocked another arrow, and this time drilled him right in the pump house. He gets up, and looks like he's ready to charge. No time to nock another arrow, so I grabbed one limb of the bow looking to use it as a club while (hopefully) jumping out of the way of his horns as he charged me.

Not to worry as after standing for a few moments, he fell dead on the ground. Gutting him was the cleanest I'd ever experienced. He'd almost totally bled out. Amazing that he could even still stand.

Got chased out the woods by a skunk two years ago, but never by a deer! Video would have been a hoot to see!

We started to take the video camera because we are getting ready for the Colorado Hog Contest. It would have been funny.
The deer was fine. I didn't get the bow around far enough to hit her with the broadhead. My lip and tounge are very sore today. I bit both of them pretty hard when she hit me.
I tried to explain to my wife that screaming like a girl is a defensive technique. I'm pretty sure it is one of the first things they teach to Navy Seals.
