Ever come close to passing out...

while being operated on? I had to go in today for a minor operation that ended up being a little more complicated and time consuming.
It wasn't for anything serious, but after almost an hour I felt as though I might pass out. They put some cold cloths on my face and neck and thankfully that awful feeling of almost passing out went away. Had part of my chest cut on.

I'm sore and feel very heavy headed, but thankfully got an unpleasant situation over with.

Sure am thankful for good doctors and medical assistants.

Got close one time when I had a bad nose bleed. Thankfully other people were around to help.

Father went in to the hospital to have some teeth pulled. I walked into the room as they were pulling some cotton balls on strings out of his mouth dripping with blood. Dropped like a tree.

I had the opposite problem. I woke up during surgery. I could hear and feel the bone saw then I remember moaning and the surgeon started talking to his assistants and telling me it was ok. I guess they upped the anesthesia because after a few seconds I was out again.
Came out of it feeling pretty terrible - to the point of fainting and they had to give me some iv fluids to revive me.
I'm not afraid of being cut on but waking during a procedure is pretty disturbing.

Hate to admit it, but I once jumped out of bed, got dizzy, and went out cold.

I knocked a hole in the wall next to my bed with my elbow.

                  Also jammed my neck.

I also went out in the middle of a blood donation.

Apparently it's easy for my body to do.

It's the vagus nerve in your neck:

It can be triggered by many different stimuli. Let your healthcare providers know you are sensitive to it when you get shots, give blood, etc.

I've got a needle phobia ... I come close to blacking out every time I have to give blood.

Getting ready for a minor procedure, the nurse came to start an IV.
I told her that she'd get it on the first try; she thought I was asking.
I reapeated myself and told her that I was insisting that she get it or I'd pass out.
Well, she missed the vein and as she was digging around with the needle, I was about a second away from loosing it. I pushed her away and told her to get someone else to do it.

Happens almost every time I have to give blood or get an IV.

Went to paramedic school with a girl that had needle phobia. She had been working on dealing with it but the first time we practiced starting IV's, on manakins, she pulled the cap off the needle and cathater and went out like some body flipped a switch. She was sitting down bit we still had to catch her to keep her from falling out of the chair.
She ended up finishing school but I don't think she ever got certified.

I can't stand needles. Went in to a lab to give some blood. Don't try and walk to the truck right after they pull the needle out. I Barely made it to the truck. Had to lay down in the seat for awhile to come back. Old Lady came over and said son you don't look very good. Your pale in the face. Lol think I scared the old lady. Told her I just gave blood so she went inside and got me some orange juice. Man I drank a glass and I felt better instantly. Thank goodness for motherly ladies out there.
