To have a minor on your degree?

Alright here is the deal I am trying to figure out if I should get my minor to add to my degree. I am curious as to from an employers stand point is it worth it to have a minor or have a higher gpa? The minor I possibly would do has potential to hurt my gpa as it requires chemistry (not a fan). Or I could graduate and go to grad school yet which i plan on. I Just thought I would ask the green screen and their opinion.

I think employers maybe more impressed with your GPA versus having a minor. I can't say my Chem minor added anything to my Biology degree

GPA, over minor especially since you are doing grad school

I have 2 minors and neither of them are on my diploma just my transcripts. I'd also say the higher GPA.

In reality, probably neither matters to any great extent, but of the two I would choose a higher GPA.

I'd probably go with the higher GPA. I've got an business degree with a minor in History....they're obviously not related and the History minor has never come up in the workplace.

I also agree with having a higher gpa.

I graduated two hours short of a chemistry minor.

Do I regret not trying to squeeze two more hours in on an already full final semester?

                  Nope.

Actually, GPA means a lot for getting the first job out of college. This of course depends on the industry and job, etc.

I know employers that look at GPA almost as the very first thing for kids coming out of college wanting a job.

When I used to work in public accounting, we used to do a lot of recruiting straight from the schools. We would take all the resumes (literally 100's of them) and put them in three stacks. Stack #1 was 3.5 or higher; #2 was 3.0 - 3.5; and stack #3 was below 3.0. Let's just say that stack #3 probably hit the shred bin.

                    Another vote for GPA.

Perhaps for some fields. I hire people all the time. My concern is about experience and ability, not GPA. There are a lot of factors at play, but to me if you got the degree then that's the most important part.

I have never had my GPA on a resume and have always gotten jobs. I have over 150 resumes from prospective employees on my desk, all with at least a Bachelors, and honestly maybe 1/4 of them list their GPA.

Now, don't get me wrong, I only hire people with a degree plus some experience, so for me the GPA is way less important than their experience. Experience can be anything from a full time job to part time summer employment.

Where GPA really becomes important is when you decide to get more education.

As for a minor, well, can't say it means a lot, but any class you take can be beneficial I guess.
