    shot placement?

okay here is my million dollar question.....i have a good buck broadside at 100 yards... shootin a cannon of a 30-06... where do i put it....i have shot every deer with a gun IN the shoulder.. not behind... but in the shoulder... i have had people tell me i was lucky that it wasnt a big bodied deer or i would have lost him?.... now my question to them is that every single one has hit the ground dead as can be at the shot.....every single one....the biggest maybe coming in a little over 150....so what do you think/ am i good to continue this shot or not?... my theory is that a deer is worthless without two front legs....he aint gonna go anywhere... and the -06 will turn them into dust.....just want a second opinion.

oh and wait on a 25 yard shot or less. 100 yards is a little too far.

hm... if there is one thing i hate to see more with a rifle shot deer is for them to run... i know the gun is capable of dropping almost any animal in the U.S. and the hatemail will not phase me one bit... i do what i want to do...as long as its ethical then i dont care......so the haters might as well save there breath

When I was gun hunting, I shot them IN the shoulder. I don't care if he's broadside or not. If he's quartering toward me, I shot him IN the shoulder. I'd hate to admit how many gun deer I killed and never lost one. I don't want to track a gun shot deer. Too many of them don't leave any blood. I shot them IN the shoulder and if they left the spot, they didn't go far.

i usually try to shoot off the front left foot. slows em up so i can tackle them and spear them in the neck!! or in the shoulder. good luck getting the buck you are after.

I'm like you. If I'm trophy hunting, through the shoulder with either of my .25 calibers. If I'm meat hunting with the .223, neck or behind the ear. Last year my daughter shot a buck that dressed 172lbs with her 7mm-08 through the shoulder that dropped right where he stood although the bullet was lodged just under the skin on the off side, I'm glad that he didn't run due to the fact that he probably would not have left much of a blood trail but IMO it is kind of hard for them to run with two broke down sholulders.

through the shoulders, you can take that 06 with a decent bullet and break both shoulders on a bull elk.

When guiding, if the client is using a big enough gun (like a 30-06) I always tell them to shoot right in the middle of the shoulder. Lots of room for error and they can't go far.

In the neck that way there is no trailing but I'm a little rusty now

Dotn Kid your self i have seen many critter run like the Dickens with one shoulder smashed

jack O'Connor invented the shoulder shot but the shoulder itself is NOT A VITAL ORGAN Sir

neck shots will often result in lost and wounded game too
