Can you post a pic of the root system?

Is it really wire like, and very hard to mow. If so, when you mow it, the cut tips look frayed?

I have the exact same stuff, whatever it is. Never seen it before, must be drought related(dormant seed). Have to slow the ridermower down to get it cut good.

Good news is I have less grass burrs than usual.

              I don't think it's a grass, I believe it's actually a sedge.

it is very hard to mow and no you cant get a good cut on it no matter how sharp your mower blade is. I will try to get a good picture of the root system tomorrow. It holds a lot of moisture in the grass when it is growing, does not mulch worth a crap. I got rid of it in the front yard when I sprayed with round up but did not spray the back yard in time before this stuff took over. The bermuda grass will not choke this out. The year before last had this close to the house and a good stand of bermuda further out in the yard.

My parents had that it their yard several years ago. It will spread and take over the rest of the yard. It is extremely hard to mow. I don't know the name of it, Dad just called it wire grass.

Its called poanna. Its a winter grass that will die out with increased temps.

Like stated before, it's either poa annua or a sedge. The sedges don't usually show up until a little later in the year. If it's poa annua you can spray it or it'll burn out with the summer temps.

                          This!

I have it in my yard in spots and it will go away with warmer temps by mid to late April.

Poa Annua it is. Just let it die off with the heat of summer, but before Christmas, spread some pre-emergent weed killer so it won't be so prevelant in Spring. You'll have to do this again in early Spring to help deter the multitude of seeds. Plus, it will lie dormant for years and jump back to life if you don't spray pre-emergent herbicide for several years. It is a PIA!
