    Not as true as you think. At the refinery where I work the fuel is blended with several different products. Naphtha, platformate, light alkylate, and of course gasoline itself. We blend to achieve a specific octane rating and when it is certified by the lab, it goes to the dock. The same truck will stop at Walmart, raceway, Exxon, Shell or whoever orders the fuel. IT'S THE SAME GAS!

    Now having said that, if you live in an are where there are several refinerys, the station very well may only buy from on dock. But here in east Texas, it probably comes from Delek.

    Could be a non ethanol blend....

      There are filters between you and the tank. It's really not an issue. Nor is temp.

        I've always wondered why a no-name tanker truck was dumping fuel in the tanks at an Exxon near work. I never buy gas there because I am not paying extra for the same fuel.

          In my Cummins diesel I add a pint of automatic transmission fluid every other tank. I get up to 28.9 on the highway running 65-70 at a steady speed.
          It a 6.7 engine

            My good friend and his family have been in the fuel distribution business for 60 years. They gas they get is piped to a plant in Waco, additives for Shell blends are added there, they fill up tanker trucks and bring to their stations in Killeen area. Yes, all gas is made by a few refineries/plants. But the fuel his Shell stations get is not the same fuel that is at non branded stations.
            He does deliver to non branded stations but will not use the Shell blend

              But it is store owners best interest to test them more often than that.
              Every gallon must be accounted for, so at end of month there is a checks and balances to see if there are any overages or shortages.

              If you are shorting customers, fines are so stiff it will shut you down.
              If giving too much fuel, it gets costly, especially at $4 / gallon.

                Yes sir. I've seen them pour in "techron" or "nitrogen enrichment" at the dock. But I really don't think a couple gallons of additive in 2000 gallons of gas is going to cause a significant mpg difference.

                I'm saying the mpg difference comes from the blend of fuel at the refinery. I would rather have more naphtha and less of the lighter stuff all the time. We have used straight light Alky in a tank before but it WILL burn up your valves.

                  The other day I got gas at the Loves in Van. I have a 27 gallon tank. I put in 29 gallons of fuel and I was not on empty when I started. Close. But not quite. I went in and asked if they were recently calibrated. He said he would check it. He grabbed the 5 gallon jug and headed out. At 5 on the pump gallons the thing said 4.8. So in my mind at 30 ish it could be off A GALLON or MORE! That jerk told me it was within legal limits and then walked away.
