you can contact winchester or do a search for years of manufacturing by seriel numbers.. just type in , what year is my *** serial # 123456789.. you will get some responses..
just an fyi, not because i think it will happen but because i know it can,,,, never reveal your serial # in a photo or sales add or in public were others can see it anywhere,, 30 years as a cop taught me well,, crooks will not mind lying to gain anything... its possible even if not probable,, some tree hugger, or other anti hunter or just lazy criminal could see it, call the local leo office and report that gun stolen, by the serial #,, it would then be found in your possession by some miracle ( boat, motor, car, microwave or whatever)..
you might win in the end,, but why defend yourself?

I have a ruger 243 model 77 tang safety liberty edition I may trade when he finds a value and the year. Let me know. I'll look it up later. I'm on my phone.

My limited research says it's a pre-64. Given the condition, I won't speculate as to value, but I saw some really clean ones running from 700-1200.

I did and it says date of manufacture was 1952. That sucker is only one year younger than I am.

Anything under 1,000,000 is real special. This should be worth something to a collector.

If he is going to shoot a deer or hog under a feeder he just as well keep it

it is a 1951 year production....but it is in rough shape....i have seen MUCH worse....dont try and clean it up i am sure you know....looks all original?
what does the bore look like? any cracks in stock? how much rust? i see some blueing wear on the barrel and tube, but the reciever looks pretty good....wood is rough

im no pro, but i buy and sell alot....those books can give you a ballpark, but most of the time they are waaaayyyyy out of line....winchesters are selling for whatever the buyer is willing to pay....the special commemorative guns arent bringing what they used to, but will again someday....i have seen more pre 64 30-30s than any other pre 64 winny because they made more....but they are still worth some money....
the one you pictured wouldnt really interest a collector, due to the condition, but you never know....
i would say it is in the $400-600 range....600 being on the high side as i have seen nice ones sell for 600-700

you can search gunbroker and the auction sights all day long, and get a good ballpark value, just keep in mind that that is what they are asking for the gun, not what it is gonna sell for....
look for auctions that have closed and sold....that gives a great idea on the goin rates for them

                          i hope this helps!!

Just looking at the pics, I noticed it doesn't appear to be in mint condition (some scaring on the stock). Which would have brought around $800 +/- on average. I'm sure he could get between $600-$800.

How is the bore?? The gun has some pitting & lots of original finish missing on the furniture. Look near the butt plate...seems to have been around some moisture. Have any of the screws on the frame been boogered up or untouched?? Is the gun lubed inside on the moving parts?? You can usually tell how much it's been shot by the rubbing of blue & see how much it has started turning white.

To me, as is would sell on gunbroker for +/-$400-450 if it has a good bore & not shot too much. If it were mine & was solid mechanically / grouped well...I would do a quicky refinish and shoot the snot out of it.

Also, if the front site in integral with the bbl itself & not silver soldered on...that's a nice bonus. Stopped +/- around the 50's.

The year of manufacture for serial number 1378000 is Between 1943 and 1948..

No records are available form 1943 - 1948

It is older than you think...
