Pedernales Falls State Park Or South Llano SP

I'm thinking of taking my family camping over the next few days, and I'm trying to decide where to go. Right now, I'm debating between Pedernales Falls State Park and South Llano River State Park. I want to go somewhere where we can do some river fishing (kayaks), but also have a nice camp spot and fun time.

Would either of these be a better choice? Anybody know if Pedernales Falls flowing well right now?

pedernales is one of my favorite parks and i backpack alot... has a waterfall (although they dont let you go down to it anymore) ther falls is a cool short hike from pavement to go see as well, the animals there are awesome and like pets...the deer like tortillas, weve sat in camp cahirs an watched them eat 15 feet, racoons are huge and waddle around at night looking for food, good park for a family. very easy trails. couple of really good swimming holes with cyrstal clear water and lots of small pan fish to catch on ultralight gear. we usually just walk the banks. i dont really think its a good spot to kayak though but theres so much river around there you should be able to just about anywhere call the park and ask. i prefer it over llano hands down if your car camping the bathrooms/showers are nicer as well. I hit up pedernales and enchanted rock about 6 times a year each usually backpack in a 2-3 days each those are my 2 fav parks in the area. its also a great time of year for enchanted rock since the water may be cool at pedernales but its all primitive at enchanted, believe llano may be better to yak but havent been in about 2 yrs and dont remember it so well. park rangers are helpful when you call and wont steer you wrong though

We used to go to South Llano every year... great swimming/float hole just as you come in the park. Great hiking and biking trails. You can rent a kayak in Junction if you want to ride the river a little. Water is ALWAYS cool/cold and at the same level unless it rains then it may rise a little. GREAT PARK!

Will-If you go to the Falls let me know. I live down river and you could do the 8 hour float down to my place to pull out. I am about 20 minutes from the park gate........River is flowing good and the water looks nice, but could get nasty if we get anymore rain.....

P falls also has a nice bird blind. You can sit and watch all sorts of birds and rabbits while the eat. It's fun for kids.

I'd say south llano for fishing, kayaking, and the campground is pretty good.
