    Runners or Triathlete Question

So Ive been running, and did a 70.3 Half Ironman for many years, however as Ive gotten older my feet have gotten more and more sore/rundown feeling. My wife suggested getting a pedicure and my podiatrist said the same thing, but also said if I were to get one about once a month, I would see a dramatic difference in how my feet feel.

Im not one to go against doctors orders, but I wanted to get varying opinions on it.

So I guess my question is Runners or Triathletes do you get pedicures? If so do they make your feet feel better and help your running?

    Thanks for the help

I dont and neither do any of my training partners (that I know of). I know a couple of them do expiernce toe nail loss after full ironmen but never heard of them getting a pedicure for it. I personally dont get anything except an occasional blister here and there but that comes from wore out shoes or wet running conditions.

You might try searching or posting this question on Slowtwitch forum.

Thanks Stins, I will give that a try. I swear when I turned 30, my pods just went to crap!

I saw a story where a guy who was doing ultramarathons and he just decided to have all his toenails removed for that reason...that's commitment

I have had a couple come off along the way, but I didn't plan it.

I don't really see how a pedicure would help me, but it might work for someone else. I'm a 40-45 mpw runner, and I keep my toenails pretty trimmed up (a couple I don't have to worry about because they are half there).

I am with all the others on here, don't see where a pedicure will help. I keep my toe nails trimmed up short but I still loose 2 or so each marathon

I run to the kitchen pretty often and my toe nails dont usually bother me.

Just keep my nails trimmed, but still lose a couple. I have soaked my feet in epsom salt and warm water because my feet tend to crack on the bottoms when training alot plus they smell horrible and this helps.

It's worth a shot. I've never gotten 1 but my wife gets them all the time. I was surprised to hear that it is much more than just toenails. It's usually a foot and calf massage and also a little whirlpool thing just for feet. There is more to it than that also. I can't see these things hurting but I'm not sure how much it will help.

who cares if they help you or not - they feel like a little slice of heaven - I went with my wife to get one with her the day before she went in the hospital to have our last son and have no regrets. Hot wraps around my entire lower legs and a foot message was far from horrible!

I run marathons, I personally don't have problems when my shoes and the weather are good. I don't run more than 45 mpw.

I have never had one before, but a few of the ladies in our tri club get them on a regular basis. I have heard them say on several occasions to make sure they don’t file your calluses down.

I've done a few marathons, half ironmans, and just did my first full ironman last year. I've never experienced toe nail loss from running...I know straight marathoners that lose their nails. No marathoner/triathlete has ever suggested to me to get a pedicure. I do know several that started "foot exercises" to strengthen muscles in and around the foot. Seemed to help them a lot.
