    Freezer

Took my bride hunting this weekend, and dang if she didnt end up shooting an oryx. My current freezer isnt large enough to put the head in until I can get it to a taxidermist, so I will need a new freezer.

There are advantages to each, but should I go with an upright or chest? Where is the best place to pick one up for a decent price?

Advantage of the upright is that it takes up less floor space, the disadvantage of the chest freezer is that stuff gets buried on the bottom.

This plus the chest freezer is more energy efficient because cold air is heavy it stays in the chest freezer when the door is opened.

I have a chest freezer. My wife says if we ever get a second freezer she wants an upright because it is easier to find things.

If you're looking to buy a new one call or go to Texas Appliances on Pioneer Pkwy in Arlington and tell them I sent you and they'll give you my contractors price. They also have a "scratch n dent" section if you really want a better price.
If you are interested in going there, text me at 817-985-9605 and I'll give you my company info.

I've had an upright for a little over 3 years now, and I am looking at getting a chest freezer.
If you have kids, or plan to, I would go with a chest. I've had to throw away stuff twice in the last 3 years since getting an upright. If the door isn't shut all the way, stuff starts thawing out on the door and front first.

Plus, like others have said, the chest doesn't lose all the cold air everytime it's opened. But, then again, you will probably forget about stuff in the bottom of the chest and end up throwing away freezer burnt stuff.

I don't think there is an upright big enough to hold an oryx head though.

I just picked up an upright off of craigslist to get me by for now. I took all but the top shelves out, and the oryx fit perfectly. It was not a monster 40"+ oryx, but still a nice one at 34".
