    Any 257 wthrby reloaders??

I have been wanting to reload for my weatherby mark V in 257 cal. I have been researching several handbooks I have for formulas, caliber info , etc.
My resources are stating that weatherby(not custom) production rifles are "free bored" and therefore impossible to reload/seat bullets on or anywhere near the lands. Also stating to reload/ seat bullets as long as the magazine will allow !!??...no numbers-kind of freaks me out
I don't want to figure this one out "the hard way". Any 257 weatherby reloaders that can give me sound advice on OAL or bullet seating for a weatherby production rifle? Thanks in advance.

No thats exactly right.. as long as they will clear the box youll be alright.

I do have one 257 that actually likes them seated extra deep.

its hard to beat the factory ammo for Wby rifles for some reason. If you really want some answers to your wby questions, its a slow forum, but check here. there is a reloading section specific for them.

My Mark V in 7mm likes factory ammo the best but my wallet does not. Seat your bullets to match Cartridge Overall Length COL listed for that bullet.

Thanks for the responses! Randy-I was kinda waiting for you to chime in, I knew you shot/reloaded for one. Which bullet? what's your coal?

Partially why I have been considering reloading for my 257 is because of cost-I have actually stopped shooting this rifle last few years due to $85/box for ammo! I had 12 boxes of brass (since I bought the rifle brand new like 8 yrs ago). (I noticed a box of weatherby brass at Cabela's was listed @ $44/box!!) . Anyway, I bought primers, powder, and bullets(enough to do 100 rounds) for less than 1 box of factory ammo!! -you betcha I'm re-loading!

anyone else reload for this round-please chime in!

just started, but im going to use 100gr TSX for mine. Seems H1000 was preferred, but i chose IMR4831 to pack into it. ive got some loaded, but i need to test them out as time permits.

I use the same powder. Will check my load tonight and post later. This gun was a tough one to tune, but well worth it in the end

I had a custom 257 Weatherby, JP Sauer and son Mauser action with a Shilen tube. It was free bored. My loads in the late 70's and early 80's consisted of 117 gr Sierra bullet, that shot well out of that rifle.

Ended up burning up the barrel after a great summer of varmint hunting.

I have a 257 wby at the gunsmith as we speak....it is finished, but waiting for paint.

I have been working up some loads to begin testing. So far I have been loading 100gr Barnes TTSX's, Nosler 110gr Accubonds and 115gr Nosler Ballistic Tips.

I am loading these up with H4831 and H1000 to see what works best. I am using Fed 210 Match primers.

On the Noslers I am loading an OAL of 3.25

On the Barnes I am saeting them deeper. They have a OAL of 3.17

I will let you know how they shoot. I am using new Hornady, new Nosler, and some pulled bullet resized/necked down 7mm MAG brass.

Last batched I worked up liked the 115 vld short at 3.179.

Ill have to dig into my data to see what my other two 257's like. I know my stainless Mark V I made them to the depth of the box

Try Reloader 25 & the barnes / accubonds in the 110 - 115 gr range
