F250 ugly exhaust tips, is there a reason?

My 2012 f-250 has the ugly slotted "dual" tip design. Is there any reasons for the slots and "wings" that are cut into it? I am looking to do a filter-back aftermarket exhaust and was wondering if there was any real reason for the stock design.

It is suppose to filter air back in, to cool the exhaust. During regen the exhaust gets very hot.

Sippy, I think, THINK, it helps do two things, cool the exhaust before it exits, and to create a vacuum to help the flow....may be way off but think I read that somewhere....probably the Internet!

If that is the case, would an aftermarket tip harm it?

Just watch where you cut it, because it will burn the paint off if left to long.

Sippy, is it still under warranty?

If so, ANY modifications done to the exhaust without Ford parts voids the warranty.

Yes, it would only void the exhaust warranty. It is against the law for them to void warranty on any parts not related to the aftermarket part.

So basically until my warranty runs out and i delete the dpf i have to keep their tip on it.

Even the aftermatket tips come with vents they just use different designs and sometimes put them further back to hide them. With out them the egt's will get so high during regen it can cause burns and fires

Dude...you're driving the baddest truck on the planet and you're complaining about the exhaust tips.

                              They'd look fine on my 2001 F-150.
