    Solar power for your cabin?

I've been looking at these systems online, I know nothing about them, I was kinda hoping somebody on the GS has done this and it has worked out for you, It will have to be a stand alone system,I.E. not on a grid, I would be running, a small fridge, 2 110v a/c's, light's, and a tv. If you've done this, how much $ we looking at?

My cousin built his house about 15 years ago with solar panels on the roof and a fire place that heats water running through pipes in the walls. Heats his whole house in PA. The state pays him every month because he generates more than he uses. Don't see why it would not work for a cabin.

Why off the grid? Stay on the grid and sell back the electricity that you produce when you're not there. Then when you're there if you need more than you can produce, you have it.

About $5.00-$8.00 per watt, just a guess. I don't know what it would be with battery back-up.
Batteries usually drive the price up

You would have to cover a pretty large roof with them to get that much juice. It would be expensive.

Sounds like the cartel runs Rio grand coop

I think a,basic solar set up will cover all of the above except a/c and fridge
. Both are energy hogs and you'd be better off bringing a genny in for those.

Lol, yep, we are just barely in the edge where rio grand coop's line is, suck's for us I guess, Every time we pass that place I want to punch'em in the throat.... And they charged us $250 to come out and take GPS reading's to route it, 2 week's later they hit us with the $40,000.00 ..

not to hurt your thinking. a coffee maker runs at 700 watts. t.v. 400. frezzer 500 to 700. window a.c. unit 2000 up to 10,000 think of just three 40 watt bulbs. a very good, top of the line solar panel rated at 750 watts will run 2000.00 dig deep into it before you think about the start of something like this. batteries. the deep cycle type. 100.00 each 12 volt. then you must apply 6-7 to a power grid of your own.
