First step in long range shooting complete!

This might not be s big deal to many here, but it was a big day for me today.

I put it all together (rifle Sendero 300 RUM, EGW base, Burris tactical low rings, Vortex PST 6-24X50 FFP scope), sighted it in with 3 factory shots, then shot 4 - 3 shot groups of my hand loads. (All 3.63 COAL, with 210 Berger VLD Hunting) with 89, 90, 91, & 92 grains of Retumbo. The 92 grains was my best grouping. Not just today, but ever!

Congrats on getting it together, no concentrate on getting those holes closer together!

        This was just a hundred.

I need to find a chrono I can borrow or rent so I can find out the velocity and then order those custom Vortex turrets.

Setting up a 1000 yard range at my deer lease in Brownwood as soon as I get my turrets.

Doesn't the scope have Moa or mil turrets? You can just work your dope in Moa or mils. The custom turrets are OK but when the temp, humidity, and pressure change they could be off. Get a good ballistic calculator like jbm ballistics and punch in your data.

I'm so new to this and don't pretend to know it all, but since this is really a hunting rifle first and long range target rifle second, wouldn't it be easier/faster in hunting situations to range the animal and then just dial in the yardage on the turrets? Maybe those turrets don't work how I'm thinking they do?

Nice shooting, where did you get load data for Berger bullets. Got some hunting VLD's for my 7 mag today and can't find a catalog for Berger. Do they have one.

Yes it may be a Tad faster but with the particular scope you have I believe it has adj. turrets already. Once you know the moa or mil adjustments for different yardages its really no different. I keep a chart in my scope cover with all my moa adjustments for reference. I know them out to 600 in my head, it becomes second nature after a bit of practice.

You can email them and ask for load data for your caliber and they will email it back to you. You will notice that their data is on the low side as far as velocity. Walt told me that their data is about 8% low for other bullets of the same caliber and weight.

Play with the seating depth, you might be able to wring out a bit more accuracy. Most useful when going for 1K.
