With the deer in full rut and the bred does looking for some relief from rut-crazed bucks, now is the time to hunt away from the feeders. I just filled the last tag I could fill in Young County this morning with a 105# doe that came straight to a doe bleat 15 yards from my trail stand. All totalled, I had a buck and 3 doe within bowshot by 8:20 this morning from that stand. Feeder hunters just aren't having the same success right now. If you're not seeing deer at your feeders consider putting a stand on a crossing, scrape or rub line and it probably won't be long before you fill a tag. It'll be a few more weeks before the run-down bucks will be back at the feeders trying to replenish their worn out bodies.
