Taking A First Time Hunter Down To Ranch This Weekend

I am going to try to break one in this weekend!

A good buddy of mine from Dallas will be coming down to Austin today and then we will head way down South to the land of thorns.

He has never hunted before and I am going to try to put him on a javi and/or pigs. He is slug hunting with an old shotgun that he inherited from his Dad. I am going to try to introduce him to the compound bow as well!

I will be bowhunting (FINALLY!) and a buddy from Laredo will be joining us and bowhunting as well. 2 Feeders are getting hammered and I have a game cam on one of them (actually the 1st one I have ever owned) so I'm excited to see what is coming in!

I heard it's going to be wet and windy, but we'll make the best of it. Blackened Fish tonight and backstraps on Sat night. I'll do my best to post some pics of the action.

There's no better feeling than to take someone hunting that hasn't experienced it before. I got to break a friend in this past year, and luckily it was the weekend I killed my buck. So far he has purchased a shotgun for bird hunting and is looking to get a bow soon.

Good luck to you all and I will be looking forward to seeing the kills!

...and he IS a newbie Bruce! He's as green as green can be. He asked me "Do I have to clean it??" I said, well if you want to take some meat home, you may want to do that 1st Of course, I will most likely do most of it.

No kidding! I saw on the weather report that there are going to be gusts up to 50 MPH in Hebbronville!! Not good for sitting in a 16' foot tripod

I was down there last weekend and took some shots with it from 16' feet up and just shot OK, so I don't think I will try it this time Bisch. I've only had it for 2 weeks and I feel that I'm only about 60%-70% ready. Got to have the confidence and I'm just not going to take the chance of wounding a critter.

I did however dust off the trusty 'ol compound yesterday and I am dead-nuts on with it! Tweaked the sights a little and put 5 out of 5 in the 12 ring at 20 yds. Just going to feel good slinging some arrows at some game!
