First thing to do is add up all the money you have that you can put into a farming business.

If it's enough to get started, then get after. Just keep farming and having fun until the money runs out.

Didn't you hear about the farmer that won the lottery? When asked what he was going to do with all that money, his reply was, "I guess I'll just keep farming until it's all gone." I grew up on a wheat farm. We grew wheat, alfalfa, coastal, cattle, horses, chickens, and anything else we could think of at the time. The only thing that did well was our garden (7 acers of garden just for the family). It is a hard life and very rewarding if you like hard work, but you will not get rich. Good luck. Farmers don't farm for the money; they do it because that's what dad taught them to do.

I worked with my uncle on a small ranch growing up but not enough experience to say worthwhile. My brother in law ranches a big area in the panhandle mainly doing cattle but he makes most of his money with horses.

That is the worst crop to plant.

You shouldn't have any problem losing $10-15/ acre on a good year. Farming/ranching in kinda like rent houses. It is a good way to build wealth, and terrible for cash flow. Cattle would be a little less upfront, and you could start smaller, but don't plan on making much cashflow. That is why most you see doing it have been in it forever, and passed down in the family.

Farming is a great way to make a small fortune! First, you start with a large fortune!

I've been in farming and ranching all my life and IMHO I would say don't throw your money away.

I'm not making any suggestions, just repeating what a person told me at a farm seminar. He said, leave the farming to the farmers and ranching to the ranchers. It's tuff to make a living. I'm thankful to them because I love hamburgers!

You would probably have a better chance of making money by putting your money in slot machines somewhere. When going through my grandfathers things after he passed I found his last "book" from 1997( the last year we raised peanuts). I was suprised to learn that after the crop was sold and all bills paid he only cleared $11,000. He owned the land and all equipment too. I. Opulent imagine trying to break into farming now

A ton of money to be made farming/ranching. Gotta know what your doing, pray a lot, and make through the many bad years you'll have. My great uncle has farmed his whole life, wife stayed home with their four daughters and lets just say, he's doing better than probably most of us are.
