    Hunting shows

Anybody watch best of the west on outdoor channel, they are all about these long distance shots, 900 yards and more. Now don't get mr wrong I think it's amazing that you can shoot that far&i know it takes slot of skill in knowing wind speeds and all that, but for me to shoot an animal from a mile away to me isn't "hunting" idk ive just grown up Texas brush huntin up close&personel with the animals just throwing this out there wanted to vent I guess

I guess its hunting but there is too much margin for error at those ranges. Not for me. I would go as far to call it unethical to shoot at a game animal at that range b/c of the high likelihood of non lethal hits.

This has been one of my goals for awhile. To shoot an animal at 600 plus yards. But another one of my goals is to stick a pig with a spear at 5 feet (thank you hog smacker for the inspiration)

So no it doesn't bother me in the least. Now would this be my preferred method of hunting no, but I want to at least say I have done it once in my lifetime.

I think I am basically on your side in this discussion. In some things, you can take a technique a little over the line to where it's not "fair chase" anymore. This is one of those things. At what distance do you decide is beyond fair chase? Everyone has to decide for themselves, I guess. But for me, if I was on one mountain and the quarry was on the next mountain and I shot it, I think I would not be practicing "fair chase" at that moment. I definitely could not take pride in my ethics, that's for sure.

Shooting 1000 yards shots at animals is not something I am interested in at all. I bought a long range rifle and decided I didn't really need it and sold it on here recently as a matter of fact.

I think its less the hunt and more into the sport of shooting. However I wouldn't mind having that notch in my belt. I also would like a 600+ yard shot at some point, even if its a hog. I wouldn't mind sending a pig into the woods with lead poisoning. J/k kind of.

                Define Hunting.

While I prefer the challenge of getting up close and personal with my quarry using a bow, others prefer the challenge of the long shot. It's all hunting, just different styles.

Tomato Tomat Toe......I pretty much agree with most on TBH.Im Probably biased to actually using hunting skills to get close to game with my bow. Ive shot long distance and after wounding an ELk or two with long range shot just lost the drive to make that shot so far away. I rarely ever shoot my rifle anymore. I still like shooting but the passion to get close to game with my bow overshadows those long distance rifle lobs. Those guys that shoot those long distances have skills in that area. The common Joe does not. Its all legal so who am I to say its wrong or right. Im waiting for heat seeking missles that will go 2 or 3 miles and hit a moose. I guess that would be a skill but thank goodness its illegal....for now. Ill take stalking a ELk, deer, moose getting 20 yards without the animal having a clue. Thats exciting to me....But thats just me. Happy Hunting!!!

I love it!! Takes more skill to shoot a rifle 1000 yards than it does to shoot a bow 50. To each there own. Thanks for the video skinny!!

Different strokes for different folks. Personally i love shooting my rifle and having about a .6 second flight time before it hits. Im a hardcore bowhunter. But if im gonna shoot somethin with a rifle i want it atleast 400 plus. Anybody can drill somethin at 150 yards. But to shoot far. You gotta know your equip and practice. And by know ur equip i dont mean just reading a ballistic print out.
