Woohoo!! There are several threads on TBH that make me smile when they pop up with updates. All of them are ranch follow alongs (elgato, bgleaton, etc.) and this one will be added to the list. I look forward to following this thread and learning as much from it as I have learned from other threads. I have applied a ton of what I have seen on these type of threads to our place with great joy and some success. I know how hard having and improving a place is and I know how much fun it is. I can't wait to see dirt turned, seeds planted and deer grown. Good luck and I look forward to all updates and pictures.

What I've accomplished today:

• Sat down this morning and made a plan for where, when and how. Fail to plan and you plan to fail.
• I have someone coming to look at, and hopefully buy, my cutter, baler and rake. I'm done with hay.
• Ordered 350# of Egyptian Wheat seed to plant as borders, breaking up pastures into smaller food plots.
• Ordered 4700# of Summer Blend Seed, consisting of Soybeans, Cowpeas, Mung Beans, LabLab, Grain Sorghum, Alyce Clover, Sunflower, and Buckwheat
• Made a deal with a guy down the road to use his No-till Drill, until I decide which one I want to buy.
• Started mowing the first pasture that we'll attack. 20ac pasture that we call the Oil Pad. (there used to be an old pad there before the drilled a dry hole)

I have help from the couple that works on the farm and from one of my son-in-laws that works for my development company, but I'm stealing him for this project when needed.

That Summer Blend Seed sounds amazing, where did you order it from? Is it considered perennial or are you considering those plots to be your annual spring/summer plots? Without looking all of the plants up, i know at least a few are perennials but I don't think all of them are. Getting all of that in the ground and growing will be a HUGE start to transforming it into a deer paradise.

Funny you say that. My local supplier no longer carries double down but has switched to 1900. So my next order will be 1900.

Some of them stand longer than others, but I plan to supplement in the fall with a fall blend of several different types of clover and Oats.

Why not just let it "go to seed" (again) and save some money? Ill probably get strung up here but, there's nothing out there with more protein and good palatability to a wide range of wildlife than ragweed.
