After work I stopped by where my mom works as she works late most days. I was sitting there talking to her and she gets a phone call and starts saying things like "Okay just calm down, put a towel around it, oh my god."....things like that. Then proceeds to tell me I have to run and get her because she's hurt. So off I go without asking questions at all really. As I'm driving out there all I know is she cut her finger. Potentially off but I don't know for sure. So I text my mom and she tells me yes it's cut off. So I get there and in the back of my mind I'm thinking, it's probably just a deep cut.
As I pull in the driveway here she comes with a rag around her hand that's pretty much as bloody as it could possibly be or getting close. She gets in and she's in hysterics so I start talking and get her somewhat calmed down. I said "Did you cut your finger or cut it off?" She said "I cut it off." I said "Okay well did you get it?" I look over and she had her finger in the palm of her hand showing me. I said....."Okay, yeah you got it." As I thought to myself, a yes would have been sufficient. She said "What am I gonna do?" I said....."Well....... you're gonna have part of a finger now." Wrong thing to say. She had another meltdown. But what else do you say? That finger was frickin toast. I ain't no doctor but I knew as soon as I saw it.
When I woke up today I sure didn't think I'd see someone holding their severed finger by the end of the day. But I suppose every day is an adventure.
