I can't tell you how it works but your brain says the tip of that finger hurts and it is no longer there
And it can be years after a body part has been "lost"

If you have to lose something, a finger is minimal compared to hand/arm
Yep, ask Lorena Bobbit’ ex-husband ‘bout that

My best friend from highschool popped off his ring finger when his wedding ring got caught on the last step when getting out of his tree stand. They tried to sew it back on but it wouldn't take. He said the hardest part was learning how to type again and trying to hold little things in his hand like M&M's or little screws. He has a perma-******* on his left hand.

Well, what I expected to see today when I opened the thread by rattler, was something funny. Nailed it! I find no humor in loss of digits; but okrattler can make any story a Shakespearean comedy. It’s hard to follow, but the tongue-in-cheek……

I've actually started a thread about missing limbs and digits before. It's crazy how many people I know that are missing a finger or part of one. I can think of 9 right off the top of my head and I'm sure I'm missing a few. No pun intended.

Hate that for her. I managed to lose the end of my left thumb slamming a pickup door when I was 12. But had an uncle who lost his entire left arm when he was 4 due to a medical condition. Later in life he got into a beehive and they swarmed him. I asked him what he did He said “‘Man, I ran and went to swatting them with both arms!”

One thing I will say that has stuck with me from that experience was what she said when she got in the pickup. She said "I cut my finger off...." It was the most sorrowful thing I've heard in a long time. It really made me feel really sad for her.

How I managed to make any attempt at humor I don't know. That's just my way of dealing with situations that are less than ideal I guess. Seeing it was not great but the way she said that made me feel bad. Real bad. I don't know why out of seeing all that mess that's really been buggin me. Hearing the way she said that.

I remember one time back in the 70's a guy cut off his finger in the shop. They got him kind of bandaged up and took him to the hospital. We were cleaning up his machine and I looked down to see his finger laying on the floor. I wrapped it up in a shop rag and took it to the hospital. It was a clean enough cut that they sewed it back on. Machining back in the day was fairly dangerous and losing fingers was not that uncommon. I came close several times.

I’m a member of the “picked someone’s finger up off the floor and put it in a bag” club. Weird group to be a part of for sure.
