I should make this a whole other thread:
landed in Miami 11am Wednesday.
stayed 2 nights in Key Largo at Playa Largo Resort Autographic Collection:
Did all the resort stuff there. Took a 38’ Catamaran sail boat to Pelican Key and went snorkeling around the mangroves and saw all sorts of species, barracuda, mangrove snappers, nurse sharks to name a few.
I brought a couple reels and bought some cheap rods from Walmart. Got up at 5:30 am and caught 6 fish, 4 species from the dock. The bell hop told me there would be juvenile tarpon there before daylight. I snuck in and first cast I had 2 follow up a topwater and turn away. I had to catch one after that!
next 2 nights were in Faro Blanco Resort in Marathon.
heres the best part!
I was fortunate enough to catch a cancellation trip with the MOST LEGENDARY WINNINGEST TARPON, BONEFISH & Permit guide in all of the Keys!
Capt Mark Krowka- YouTube research him. Over 4 decades of guiding. After he took us to catch tarpon, then bone fish, and then our luck on permit did not connect on the only opportunity we had…
He Said meet him at 4:30 am. Which we did. We quickly got in his 18’ Maverick HPX (look that up too) and with no technology, no gps, just a light and knowledge he led us all through the keys along Islamorada in the dark where I landed my first tarpon. Then he put us on numerous bonefish at multiple spots, with a last ditch effort to run 20 min for a permit sight casting opportunity. I , nor my wife could spot these fish as he was calling out directions and distances. He fished us for hours, until about 3pm! Returned and fed his pet Goliath grouper. NEMO, some dead mullets, and his wild Great White Heron “Whitey”,
his friendly iguana never showed but said he would crawl up his leg to eat live shrimp.
Went inside his waterfront house, met his lovely wife Marcie and I got to see just a few of his 400+ 1ST PLACE TROPHIES in the top tier tournaments in the keys, he currently has guided 904 Florida Slams.
I was recommended to contact him by my cousin who fished with him years ago, It wasn’t until I saw his pod cast in Mill House Productions that I realized who I was actually going with… AN ABSOLUTE REAL LIFE LEGEND. The most humble guy ever!
I cannot wait to go and fish with him again and execute that slam. I learned so dang much from that guy in just a few short hours. His knowledge and skill set was profound! PROFOUND!
We ate at a whole bunch of places, I can’t even recall all of them.
spent the last night at some Marriott back in Key Largo before heading back to Miami to tour and fly out.
I had no idea the keys were that amazing.
and yes, I went to Robbie’s not once but twice to play with the dock pets.
