Key West, Florida: Never been before but on my way

I’m en route, flying out. Landing in Miami, going to Key Largo for at least 2 nights.

Then no set itinerary for the next 3 nights. Likely travel down through the Keys.
I don’t have expectations, we’re just going with the flow thereafter.

Anything to see or do that you recommend?

Butterfly Museum, Hemingway Home/museum, Southern Most Point in Continental US……….and probably more flamboyant ghey men per capita than anywhere else in the world………except maybe a Cowboys game 😁. It was a neat quick stop for a cruise but there’s no way in Hail I would go to Key West to stay for any period of time.

Robbies in Islamorada to hand feed the tarpon for sure. Square Grouper was a good restaurant nearby.

We drove down for a day trip when I was a teenager. Cool atmosphere and I remember they were filming Say What Karaoke for MTV (this was around 2000).

Don't worry about the ghey dudes though. They'll make you feel like $1,000,000

The general rule is to stay in the middle of the Keys, and away from the ends.

                Especially the key west end.

The wife and I went a few years ago, had a great time. Did Hemmingway Home, Southernmost Point, Lighthouse, fishing, snorkeling, and scuba, wish it had been lobster season. If you are expecting white sandy beaches like the FL Panhandle, you will be disappointed. Beaches were lacking from what we experienced. Go to the mansion and get the lobster pizza, it's the best thing we ate the entire trip. It was so good! Here is a short video of what we did. Oh yeah, go to Robbie's and see the tarpon, sharks, and manatee, get the Bloody Mary.

Been 4 times over the years. Always a good time with a lot of cool stops along the way (many were listed by others). Lots of festivals with zero issues and lot's of people watching. Enjoy the time doing something different!

Wife and I went there for 5 days a few years ago. We hit all the things you mentioned and enjoyed them. We were in our mid 40's at the time and stayed in a AirBnB right off Duval with a small private pool. We are early to bed and early to rise so we would get up early and enjoy breakfast and cuban coffee, walk around, see the sights, do touristy stuff and start day drinking at lunch, watch some live music, come back to the pad and change and go to dinner and back home, buzzed and sleepy by the time the crazies came out at night. Yea, we're old but it was a fun trip for us. Only thing I would suggest is scheduling the Dry Tortuga's trip well in advance, we didn't know to do that so did not get to go, even tried booking a small private plane but it too was sold out. Hemingway House was cool, Capitan Tony's and Hogs Breath, Sloppy Joes and some Irish bar, all neat places to pop in and have a drink and eat.
