    Rem 700 question

I am trying to build a long range rifle, I want to use a rem 700 action.

My question is, why is everyone selling there 700 actions for 400-500 bucks when you can get a brand new 700 gun for less than $400?

Because someone will buy it I've seen a lot of barrelled actions for 300-350 also depends /nd which action j style, short long etc. etc buy a beater Adl sell the stock and optional (trigger'bottom metal) if you wanna replace it and start your build my eyes are peeled for a stock right now. Very rewarding to build your own.

Didn't know a new 700 was under 400? Where are you seeing these prices?

You can sell the stock & bbl and get the action down to $300 - $350...

I would look for an older action than the new entry level 700's but both will clean up nice.

You can save time by going straight to a Stiller action but will cost you an extra bone or two.

The older actions are a lot smoother. I think they spent more time with the old ones doing a true fitting of the bolt. New ones are sloppier and just don't feel as nice. Some of that cost is also in the wood vs synthetic. I have a 700 from the mid 70's, bolt is butter smooth and still tight. Both of the modern 700's I have from late 90's and mid 2000's are a bit 'gritty' for lack of a better word and there is noticeably more slop with the action open. New ones are still accurate and reliable, but if I were building a one off custom I would want the smoother action.

be patient and you can find used ones from 300-400 bucks depending on if you are wanting a SA, LA or Magnum action. If you are going to build custom and want just the action and bolt this is the way to go. I picked up a .243 for $300 to use the action for a build

big green has numerous model guns ranging from "entry level" 710/770 for $300 , to the synthetic stocked ADL for $379 , to the VSSFII which sell for over $1000

different strokes for different folks based on the size of their wallet and shooting intentions

in the long run, especially with a custom build, you get what you pay for
