    Possible job for a RPLS

I know a guy looking to buy a survey company out in the Country. Established business. If successful he will be looking for a go-getter RPLS to run the company (and possibly end up owning it depending on many factors).

Where should he start looking for a RPLS that would want a job like this? I'd like to think there would be some maybe newer RPLS that would want to live away from big cities but ????

A newer RPLS is generally tied to an established company already. The better thing to do would be to put word out however it’s done these days and find one who’s been licensed for a little bit.

Someone who’s been around a few minutes, or possibly even a stop gap solution with one who’s isn’t far from retiring.

I was thinking newer ones may be tied to a company. Just hoping some are not. I guess anyone with a vision for the future that wants to eventually own their own company would work.

Wondering how hard it will be to find someone.

Does no one get the license on their own?

It happens, but it’s not the most common thing.

Best bet is to put word out, like I previously mentioned. You could find someone looking to move to a different area or, again, possibly an older Stamp who’s looking for something while they’re winding down.

Maybe search the TSPS Chapter in your region. They likely have a monthly chapter meeting where you could inquire or post the opportunity.

I did a few years back. The RPLS we used were older and owned their own company.

Seems like most older ones I've known thought they ruled the world, which is why I'd think a younger one may be a better option. Or, as mentioned, an older one looking to wind down in a small town.

Coming from an owner of a small civil engineering and surveying company finding an RPLS is going to be a difficult process. There is a huge shortage of surveyors in the state and your larger surveying firms watch the list every round for who passes the exam and will immediately start trying to hire them. Every young surveyor that I have interviewed in the past 5 years have been offered way more money than we can afford to pay. It took us almost two years to locate our last surveyor that we hired. She came from out of state was here for just over a year and left for another company.

I would of thought that the owner of a surveying company would be the RPLS but I guess not. I had an issue with a landowner dividing some land into smaller tracts and it looked like they were trying to landlock me by the surveying stakes. I called the the surveying company which actually was a house in the same subdivision as me and the owner had no idea what I was talking about. He had the surveyor call me to discuss. Kinda scary to me. I liken it to guys that have an Electrical company and pay a Master Electrician to pull permits for them......Yep the same kinda of scary.
