    Time to Renew Electricity Provider

Well it is that time again. Looks like I can lock in an average total price of 14.8 cents per KWH for 60 months. With all the new data centers and what not demanding more electricity I'm thinking to lock in a long term fixed price.

    Thoughts?

Yeah, me too ! I think I’ll just stick with my current provider. See what I did there ? Sorry, bad joke

I'd look at how much power you use on weekends vs weekdays, then see if a free weekends, or even free evening plan, costs compared to a flat rate plan like you mention. We use 35% of our power between 7pm Friday and 5 am Monday.

Just pointing something out, the timeframe you mention is ~35% of the week, so it makes sense 35% of electricity consumed in that timeframe.

              The math:
              7pm Fri thru 5am Sun = 58 hours
there are 168 hours in a week
              58/168=0.345 or 34.5%

I have been tracking them for the past year or two with just going 3-6 month plans at a time hoping they will go down and have not seen any sort of trend to level out or drop down. I am about to have to renew and am seeing 16-17 cents/kWh at a minimum. I would be real tempted with that price if it is fairly consistent across all usages. You might see if you can find anything cheaper and if you can take the plan to them and threaten to leave if they cannot match it. I have got some pretty good deals in the past doing that.

The cheapest I see offered fixed or variable is 13.2 cents. I will look at when our energy is consumed, but I'm willing to bet it is fairly consistent usage (both my wife and I work from home). The 60 month plan I referenced does not vary much at all between usage amounts and the cancellation fee is $250. I like both of those traits of it.

I've done the Energy Orge before and it was not saving us anything, in fact, it probably cost us some money. We only average 974 KWH/month. I think Orge is made for high demand users.

Well...I hadn't considered it from that perspective. Thanks for busting my bubble

These rates sound awfully high, to me at least.

I went through another service a few weeks back because ours is due for renewal as of tomorrow, May 1, and I got 11.3 through GEXA. Granted, it’s only for 12 months but that’s about 3.5c per kwh than I could find when I got our current plan two years ago.

You have to read the EFL. Every Free Nights and Weekends that I've researched has always been a gimmick if you take the time and do the math.

                              Twist
what company did you use to get that rate with Gexa?
Just looked on powertochoose.org and gexa is 13 cents/2000 kWh.

                              thanks
