    Dewberries, anyone?

I believe I remarked in an earlier post that the dewberries out on our place (Central Texas) are more abundant than I’ve ever seen them. I’m at a loss as to why they’re so prolific this year but we picked ten pounds last weekend and I expect my pickers will pick twice that today.

All this is to say that I’m running out of freezer space! So if you’re in or near Lexington, or you just feel like making a run up to Snow’s this morning, and you’d like some dewberries, give hollar and I’ll DM you my cell # and location.

    Wish I was closer!
Hope people take you up on the offer. Shame if they go to waste.

OMG!! That is about as generous an offer as I think I've ever seen on here!! I agree, there is a bumper crop of dewberries this year, but DANG the pain and agony you have to go through to get 'em!! Very nice Shaun!! We have a lot of thornless blackberries, and they're pretty good, but their taste does not compare to the flavor of a wild dewberry! Without out a doubt, the best tasting and sweetest berry variety on the planet!

Ours in North Central Louisiana are abundant as well and more so this year according to a local neighbor who picks them almost daily during season and keeps us well fed when we are at the farm with cobblers, pies and all sorts of deliciousness. She said she has more in the freezer already than last year and said there is plenty more coming.

FYI. If you freeze them on a cookie sheet and then store them in a plastic jug. You can later just shake out what you want , no stuck together berries.

No kiddin’. Every time my leather holster squeaks or my metal pail scrapes across some thorns I jump sky high.

Only a regular wearer of a leather holster in the quiet outdoors would know how much noise leather makes.

                    Truth for sure.

Even after absorbing years of voodoo juice, they still squeak, every one of them. 😂🤣😂

Tons of them around the house this year. Wife was going to pick some for me, so I tagged along. First thing I told her was take a gun and watch out for snakes.

About 5 minutes of picking and I see something move underneath my hand about 4-5”.

Ended up being about a 1’ copperhead. Shot at it twice, but in all the excitement, best I could do was kick up dirt around it. 🤦‍♂️

Generous offer Ma’am! Wish I was headed your way.

Okay, that’s it! I’m done! Dewberry season is over for me.

I just shot TWO cottonmouths! Now, I hate snakes, but I HATE cottonmouths. They run from no man. They lie there in wait…perfectly still…watching you..,making no noise…until they STRIKE! I hate them!

Now, everything would have been fine except for Voodoo; he just had to mention snakes.

                              I blame him.
