Deer with a collar on it

This is a first. A deer with an orange collar on it. Looks like a tag on the bottom of it

Are you going to keep the collar and tag on the shoulder mount for authenticity?

I looked it up and some TP&W deer have collars and GPS trackers.

That is not a tracking collar for deer, someone's pet.

We had one of them once in SE Texas The possum cops wanted to talk to the neighbors about it. Never heard anything after, never saw the collar again.

Another ranch I hunted on in S Texas had one, it was the pet doe that was bottle raised when was orphaned. Was more to identify her incase she wandered during doe culling times.

Knew a LO that raised one and put an orange collar on it so hunters wouldn’t shoot it

I knew of one with an orange collar in Leon county. It was not a “pet” deer but it was accustomed to people so much a collar was used to identify the deer. Hunters in the area did not shoot it. That was years ago.
