I went to ACE Hardware this morning and got the MS 271 chainsaw and the FS 56RC weed eater! They were happy to match the Northern Tool deal, honor my Timber tax exemption and take a coupon I had from them in my truck. It is definitely a lot heavier than the MS 251 they let me handle, but I figured "what the heck", just part of the exercise regiment.....lol
I left there and went to Northern Tool and got a spare tire/rim for my trailer that I haul my new to me tractor on for 20% off. While their got the Stihl bar oil and 2 cycle engine oil mix........and threw in my $10 coupon I got in the mail. All in all, it was a good day.........appreciate all the folks on this thread for helping me navigate the world of chainsaws......whew!

I'm no expert, but I assume if the bar on my MS290 is a .325 pitch and .63 gauge then the sprockets are also .325? So, technically I can put the MS-290 (.325/.63) Bar on my MS-261 and it should work, right?
Then I can go find a 18 inch .325 pitch, .63 gauge bar for my new MS261?
Stihl Customer service does not answer and are not returning calls, otherwise I should have had an answer by now....

Now, I'm trying to figure out if I can put a .325 pitch and .63 Bar on my MS261 so I can just buy the same chain and interchange with my old MS290
